Tokyo, Japan — July 2025 — The International Space University (ISU) concluded a dynamic and inspiring visit to Tokyo, Japan, reinforcing its commitment to global collaboration, academic excellence, and the expansion of space education throughout Asia. The visit showcased ISU’s evolving role as a leading convener in the international space ecosystem and affirmed Japan’s readiness to embrace deeper partnerships in the pursuit of innovation and space exploration.
Building Strategic Partnerships Across Japan
The ISU delegation began its Tokyo mission at Keio University, engaging in productive discussions focused on co-developing academic programs, joint initiatives, and research collaborations. These conversations highlighted a shared vision for preparing the next generation of global space leaders.
ISU also visited Cross-U, a forward-thinking collaboration hub for Japan’s space industry. There, ISU leadership and Stirling Forbes of Forbes-Space presented the ISU model to a cohort of nearly 20 leading Japanese space companies. The exchange aligned ISU’s mission with Japan’s thriving commercial space environment and laid the groundwork for future cooperation.
Formalizing Partnerships and Expanding Educational Access
A major milestone of the week was the signing ceremony with Hokkaido University and UNISEC Global at Cross-U. This new partnership will see Hokkaido University host ISU’s Executive Space Course this October, expanding access to professional space education and supporting workforce development across the region.
Honoring Alumni and Community Spirit
The ISU alumni community in Japan hosted an evening gathering of space professionals in Tokyo, celebrating their shared achievements and passion for advancing ISU’s mission. The event brought together 16 alumni who continue to shape Japan’s growing space ecosystem and reaffirmed the strength and unity of the ISU global family.
Deepening Collaboration with JAXA
A visit to JAXA Headquarters in Tokyo underscored ISU’s enduring partnership with Japan’s national space agency. Discussions focused on the strategic MOON SHOT 2030 program and explored ways to deepen educational and innovation partnerships, with a shared commitment to advancing global space leadership.
Speaking at SPACETIDE and Forging New Opportunities
ISU participated in the SPACETIDE conference, with a keynote panel on investing in human capital for the New Space Economy. Numerous industry meetings were held with space sector stakeholders, broadening ISU’s visibility and impact.
The visit concluded with a private networking event hosted by SpaceX, offering new opportunities for international collaboration and reaffirming ISU’s role as a trusted global partner in shaping the future of space exploration.
Looking Ahead: One ISU, Global Impact
“This visit to Japan was a powerful reminder that space education thrives on international collaboration,” said Dr. John Wensveen, President of the International Space University. “We found shared values, bold vision, and a strong desire to partner in shaping the future of space. As we move forward, ISU is committed to building lasting partnerships in Asia and around the world—because space is global, and so is our mission.”
With new partnerships, expanded programs, and strengthened alumni ties, ISU’s presence in Asia continues to grow. These efforts will help deliver on its promise to educate and empower the next generation of space leaders — and to do so together, as One ISU.
