15 July 2025 – Strasbourg, France / Tokyo, Japan
The International Space University (ISU) and ASTRO GATE Inc. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore new avenues for collaboration in space education, workforce development, and regional innovation. The agreement represents a shared vision to strengthen ties between academia, industry, and government across Japan and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
This initiative builds upon ISU’s long-standing commitment to global engagement and ASTRO GATE’s leadership in spaceport development and regional economic growth. The partnership aims to identify opportunities for joint programs and activities that connect students and professionals with emerging space ecosystems.
“ISU welcomes this opportunity to engage with ASTRO GATE as part of our broader efforts to expand access to interdisciplinary space education,” said Dr. John Wensveen, President of ISU. “We look forward to exploring how this collaboration can support our mission of preparing space leaders worldwide, while fostering local impact in Asia-Pacific.”
As part of the MoU, ASTRO GATE has expressed interest in supporting initiatives that would increase ISU’s regional presence at their spaceports, such as leveraging local resources and government incentives to expand educational access in Japan. Discussions will continue around potential pathways for establishing a platform that links ISU’s global network with real-world spaceport development and innovation activities.
“We are honored to collaborate with ISU, an institution with a respected legacy in space education,” said Mr. Yuki Harada, President and Founder of ASTRO GATE Inc. “We believe Japan and the Asia-Pacific have an important role to play in the future of the space economy. Through this partnership, we hope to support talent development and knowledge exchange in meaningful ways.”
This agreement reflects ISU’s inclusive and strategic approach to partnering with institutions, companies, and communities across the globe. The university remains open to working with a broad range of stakeholders across the Asia-Pacific to advance interdisciplinary education and unlock new opportunities for space-sector growth.
