ISU Chancellor Announcement

International Space University Welcomes Eytan Stibbe as New Chancellor
Thanks Dr. Valanathan Munsami for Years of Dedicated Service

Strasbourg, France – July 21, 2025 — The International Space University (ISU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Eytan Stibbe as its new Chancellor, following a unanimous decision by the ISU Board of Trustees during a special meeting held on July 2nd.

Mr. Stibbe is an Israeli astronaut, impact investor, and philanthropist widely known for his role as a crew member of Ax-1, the first Private Astronaut Mission to the International Space Station. In 2022, he led the trailblazing Rakia Mission to space where he brought together educators, scientists, artists, and students, to assemble and integrate a full work plan, proving that space is for all.

His global leadership and unwavering dedication to humanitarian and educational initiatives make him an ideal figure to represent and guide ISU’s mission of advancing international cooperation in space.

“The role of Chancellor at ISU is both symbolic and strategic,” said ISU President Dr. John Wensveen. “Eytan Stibbe brings an exceptional combination of experience, vision, and passion for space exploration that aligns perfectly with ISU’s values. We are honored to welcome him into this leadership role.”

As Chancellor, Mr. Stibbe will serve as an ambassador for ISU, offering guidance to the Board of Advisors, supporting the university’s growing global network, and championing the mission of fostering international collaboration in space education and research. He joins a distinguished line of past Chancellors that includes luminaries such as Arthur C. Clarke, Dr. Buzz Aldrin, and Dr. Pascale Ehrenfreund.

ISU also wishes to express its deepest gratitude to outgoing Chancellor Dr. Valanathan Munsami, who has served with distinction since 2022. Dr. Munsami’s leadership helped strengthen ISU’s presence globally and laid the groundwork for future collaborations. His recent efforts to facilitate partnerships between the Saudi Space Agency and Prince Sultan University exemplify his ongoing commitment to ISU’s growth and its engagement across the Middle East region.

“Val has been an extraordinary advocate for ISU,” said Dr. Wensveen. “We thank him sincerely for his dedication, leadership, and continued support.”

As ISU embarks on this next chapter, the university community looks forward to the inspiration and momentum that Mr. Stibbe will bring to its mission.
