Did something happen this year at ISU? Well, wait for next year!

Dear friend of ISU – for the International Space University ISU, 2019 has been a very good year. We have seen the highest number of students and participants ever, a growing diversity in our geographical and gender distribution, and we had a number of “firsts”.

They include:

  • the inaugural class of the Commercial Space Programs graduate certificate was hosted at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in partnership with the Florida Institute of Technology;
  • the first ISU Executive Space Course in the Southern Hemisphere was hosted in Canberra by the Australian Space Agency;
  • a new multidisciplinary short course on Space Resources was offered in collaboration with the Luxembourg Space Agency and the Colorado School of Mines;
  • ISU’s space start-up incubator hosts its first company since October;
  • this year’s cohort of the Master of Space Studies has, for the first time in 25 years of the MSS program, more women (60%) than men!;
  • the first alumna of the MSS program to fly to Space: Jessica Meir (MSS 2000) has sent us all a video message to commemorate the program’s 25th anniversary;
  • the first time an ISU alumna and an experiment are flying simultaneously in Space;
  • the first ISU payload to undergo a full campaign of microgravity tests at the ZARM drop tower in Bremen: a “single bubble sonoluminescence” experiment that was selected by the ESA Academy’s Drop your thesis! program;
  • based on the experience above, the launch of ISU’s Space Payloads Lab was a natural choice. Stay tuned for more news on the SPL to come soon.

Our Board has adopted a new Strategic Plan that includes ambitious objectives in research as well as the accreditation of the Master program.

I look forward to 2020, and I wish you and your family and colleagues an excellent holiday season. Watch our Season’s Greetings video!

Your President

Juan (ISU 1989)
