ISU MSS17 on a Professional Visit to SES Luxembourg

Students from the International Space University’s Master of Space Studies MSS17 visited SES operations near Luxembourg City on 3rd February 2017.  MSS17 Robert Gevargiz reports.

“The visit was hosted by the marketing and HR departments at SES – Société Européenne des Satellites. Also visiting were ISU President Prof Walter Peeters, ISU faculty members Dr Barnaby Osborne and Dr Vasilis Zervos and MSS17 Teaching Associate Veena Shelvankar.

The ISU students were welcomed with an introductory talk on the company’s activities in the field of satellite operations covering all its major markets. After lunch, students were taken on a guided tour of the SES facilities which included the company’s Satellite Monitoring and Operations Centre.

SES2The company operates in Video, Mobility, Government and Enterprise segments of the market.  These segments respectively cover entertainment and information, government activities including security and telecommunication companies and firms involved in network services provision.

Following the tour of the engineering facilities, students participated in a business game in the afternoon arranged by the company’s training department. The highly enjoyable game session allowed the MSS students, working in groups, to simulate decision making in a commercial satellite operation and provided excellent insight into the commercial telecommunications sector.”
