The Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program (SHSSP) officially opened at the University of South Australia on 14 January 2019, bringing together 45 participants from 13 countries. Now in its 8th year, the prestigious program is conducted by UniSA in partnership with ISU.

Our Programs

Master of Space Studies

Designed for students looking for the competitive edge that will help them obtain a career in the space sector, professionals interested in making a career move into or within the space sector, and researchers wishing to broaden their knowledge or make the move from academic life into the space industry.

Space Studies Program

Two-month course for postgraduate students and professionals of all disciplines. The curriculum covers the principal space related fields, both non-technical and technical. The shared experience of an international, interactive working environment is an ideal networking forum leading to the creation of an extensive, international, multidisciplinary professional network.

Southern Hemisphere Program

Intensive five week, live-in experience built around an international, intercultural, and interdisciplinary educational philosophy for which ISU is renowned. The program provides a multidisciplinary understanding of the key activities and areas of knowledge required by today’s space professions.

Executive Space Course

Provides an overview of space-related subjects for professionals of diverse backgrounds, including marketing, finance, law & contracts management. Professionals leave with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to communicate more effectively with their technical colleagues.

2016 Young Space Leaders Recognition Programme (YSL) winners

The YSL Recognition Programme is targeted at exceptional students and young professionals who demonstrate leadership in their academic or early careers.

• Victoria Alonsoperez SSP11

They will receive their awards at the International Astronautical Congress, IAC2016.


2016 IAF Emerging Space Leaders (ESL) Grant winners

Out of the fourteen young people that have been selected to participate in the 2016 IAF ESL Programme, five awardees are ISU alumni:

• Michaela Musilova SSP15
• Yuval Brodsky MSM10
• Sinead O’Sullivan SSP13
• Marta Rocha de Oliveira SSP15/MSS16
• Lisa Stojanovski SH-SSP16


This comes on top of the selection of Sinead O’Sullivan and of Kyle Acierno as speakers in the IAC2016 Next Generation Plenary.

The efforts of more fair gender distribution in ISU are also very noticeable from these ISU related nominations, showing again the strong ISU impact in this area.

The International Astronautical Federation is an international space advocacy organization founded in 1951 to establish a dialogue between scientists around the world and to lay the information for international space cooperation.

ISU has been an active member for several decades and will this year again take part in IAC2016, Guadelajara, Mexico to congratulate the ISU IAF award winners!
