First ActInSpace successfully completed at the International Space University

On 20 and 21 April 2016, a number of teams from local universities in Strasbourg and from ISU took the challenge to prepare, within 24 hours, a business plan based upon a list of suggestions proposed by CNES, ESA and Airbus.

Most of these proposals were based upon existing patents owned by these organizations, with the objective to develop a space based application on this basis.

Locally the initiative was strongly supported by the Eurometropole, UniStra Pepite Etena, Alsace Digitale, INPI, SERTIT, ENSIIE and ISU.
After the 24 hour hackaton, six teams made a proposal for a jury, chaired by Mrs Juliette Lambin from CNES and supported by experts from ISU and its partners.

The jury decided to give the first prize to the project AMMA, presented by students from ISU. The proposal is to overlay a number of COPERNICUS data allowing to advice owners of houses or other real estate to evaluate online if they were using the right heating source, to propose alternative solutions and calculate the difference in cost.

Besides the direct economic return, the jury also appreciated the indirect effect of this proposal in terms of sustainable development.

The team will be financially supported by Eurometropole to defend their proposal in the national final, which will take place in Toulouse on 28 June 2016.

This event marked another step forward in the ISU approach to promote space start-ups and to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of its alumni!

"My life can be clearly divided between before and after ISU. ISU was a breaking point that created a world of possibilities in front of me."

Carmen Felix - MSS10 -

"Attending ISU has been, for me, the ultimate eye-opening experience. Attending the Master of Space Studies allowed me to pursue my personal interests with a limit determined only by my imagination."

Diego Urbina - MSS09 -

"My space flight was the changing point in my whole life. Since my background was mechanical engineering, I did not know much about space, which led me to the International Space University."

Soyeon Yi - SSP09 -

"ISU is broadening the global space community and connecting New Space countries to old and mighty ones."

Mart Vihmand - SSP11&MSS13 -
