MSS18 Internship Stories: René Michel and Nicolas Brechenmacher at SES

“We, Rene and Nicolas, are currently completing our internship at SES, which is one of the leading satellite operators in the world. They have offices in all the continents and services that go from in-flight connectivity to maritime coverage.

We are working in the headquarters in Betzdorf, a small village in Luxembourg.
Before ISU and SES I (Rene) worked for the Bolivian Space Agency, and my background was purely technical. As a personal career path, I decided to pursue an internship in a different field, hence at SES, I am working in the Market Development Department. I am doing a Market assessment for future services. For the past week, I have been doing research and minor tasks. I believe that in the coming weeks I will have the opportunity to apply my previous experience to this new environment.

I (Nicolas) am a young graduate in aerospace engineering. For my internship, SES gives me the opportunity to gain more technical skills to pursue my career in the aerospace sector. For the past two weeks, I was getting familiar with the subject of my internship. I am now starting to professionally apply the knowledge I gathered during my year at ISU and before.

In general, the environment at SES is friendly. During lunchtime, the canteen is the perfect place to network and meet new people, most of them are accessible and easy to talk to. We also have access to the gym, let's hope not only our brains and experiences get reshaped during this internship!”

The last module of ISU's Master of Space Studies (MSS) program is a three-month internship that ISU students carry out in space agencies, space companies, start-ups, universities and other space-related organizations. ISU MSS students are working all over the world, gaining valuable skills in many different environments, on many different types of projects. Let’s read about their experiences!
