French classes in Collaboration with the University of Strasbourg

ISU MSS19 students Scott Ritter and Abhishek Diggewadi report on the French classes offered by the International Space University ISU, on its central campus. Let’s focus on the French teachers of the Institut International d’Etudes Françaises (IIEF) of the University of Strasbourg.

Déborah MILLER and Zuzanna DULINSKI are currently giving classes while Noémie VASSEUR used to be a French teacher at ISU for many years. Those classes include a week-long intensive French class before the beginning of the program. And bi-weekly classes during the academic year. Let’s hear about their story!

Déborah MILLER

"I have been a professor at the IIEF of the University of Strasbourg since 2004.

After high school I decided to go to the USA to fulfil my childhood dream and perfect my knowledge of the English language. I studied at the Montgomery Community College, Pennsylvania. My calling probably started then, as I lived such an enriching experience.

When I came back to France, I decided to do a BA in English studies and then I took the exam to become flight attendant: back then my dream was to travel the world, but some events changed the way things went!

I finally decided to teach French as a Foreign Language.  I got a position at the IIEF after finishing my Master’s Degree in French as a Foreign Language (FLE) and I have been teaching at ISU for five years now: it is such an extraordinary experience and the students I meet there are wonderful!"

"I have been a professor at IIEF for two years.

My career history is unusual as, after finishing my law studies, I decided to carry out a training to become a French teacher.  I have always lived in Strasbourg, a city I really like. Travelling is part of my life: I recently went to Thailand, Italy, Egypt, Portugal and Japan.

My family name does not sound French, that’s because I come from a French - Polish family. But the ISU students shouldn’t worry, we will focus on learning only French…for now!"

"I studied at the University of Strasbourg, and I am working there as a professor now.

I always liked learning foreign languages, I started Japanese at a university level but I decided to teach French, my mother tongue. French classes at ISU are a perfect example that teaching and meeting students is a wonderful journey!"

Two MSS19 students give us their impression on the French classes.

Scott Ritter informs us that:

“The French class has been a valuable resource for learning language basics, and orienting to Strasbourg. The professors are knowledgeable, helpful, and fun! We should have French class every day, all year!”

Abhishek Diggewadi gives us his opinion:

“The French teachers Ms. Deborah Miller & Ms. Zuzanna Dulinski are extremely competent and very friendly. They’re really good and very helpful swapping things around when need to be. I love both of them. I was taught by Ms. Dulinski. Her humor and artistic skills make her delivery very effective. The lessons were very well structured and easy to follow. The social activities are great and there is a really good atmosphere during classes. Though the course was intense, I enjoyed every bit of it.”
