Individual telephone lines are already installed in most apartments but residents are required to pay connection charges (around 50 €) if they install a telephone.

Internet connection is possible depending on the accommodation.

• The cost for High-speed Internet access connection is around 30€ per month depending on the service provider (installation and material rental are additional).

• Low-speed Internet connection is invoiced either according to your consumption or according to a monthly package deal.

Public telephones work almost exclusively with telephone cards ("Télécartes") which may be purchased from France Telecom agencies, post offices, tobacco shops, railway stations, airports, and all other authorized retailers with the sign "Télécartes en vente ici". Cards with 50 units cost 7,40 €, those with 120 units cost 14,75 €.

For international calls from France, dial 00 immediately followed by the country code and number. There is no dialing tone after dialing 00. All numbers in France have 10 digits. To call anywhere in France, including Paris and surrounding areas, just dial the 10 digits.

For collect calls (PCV) from France: dial the information number 118718 ou 118712 (free of charge from a phone booth) and ask for a PCV to a particular country. They will give a direct number or futher instruction. Not all countries accept collect calls.
