Master of Space Studies (MSS18) participant Rami Ibrahim reports back on a recent professional visit of the entire International Space University (ISU) MSS18 class to Airbus Defence and Space in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

“This visit gave the participants the chance to know more about Airbus Defence and Space, which includes an introduction and lectures, a visit to the construction zone, and a good opportunity to let students discuss their internship with the Airbus team.

airbus2On Monday, 27th November 2017, ISU students left the university at 07.00am with the ISU faculty team by bus and during the trip, they enjoyed the snowy landscape views of the Black Forest starting from Hohberg city until reaching the Airbus site at 10.00am.

The Airbus team was waiting for ISU, and started providing an access card and badge for all students, and gave some instructions and rules on the gate. The Airbus host, the head of future navigation programs, welcomed the group and started with a company presentation providing more details and information about the Airbus group. After that we were given a lecture about Rosetta: A spacecraft designed for survival. All the participants then went to the construction zone, and were explained by the head of the mechanical product & engineering unit that this zone is a clean area where they are going to do various tests on the spacecraft.

The lunch break started at 1.00pm, and the internship opportunities discussion started as well with the Airbus team. After lunch, ISU Alumni gave some advice to ISU students about the internship at Airbus, and explained their experiments when they were at ISU until they found their opportunities with Airbus. ISU students have been provided with more lectures ‘BepiColombo’ which is a joint mission of the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to the planet Mercury. Lectures have been ended by expert of scientific payloads with sustainable materials concept and exploration. After that students were preparing for leaving the Airbus building.

At the Airbus gate, ISU students and faculty took some photos for memories. ISU students hoped back on the bus to leave Airbus Defence and Space, reaching Strasbourg at 8.30pm. Another informative and reach day thanks to ISU!”

"Attending ISU has been, for me, the ultimate eye-opening experience. Attending the Master of Space Studies allowed me to pursue my personal interests with a limit determined only by my imagination."

Diego Urbina - MSS09 -

"My space flight was the changing point in my whole life. Since my background was mechanical engineering, I did not know much about space, which led me to the International Space University."
